On Saturday, April 19, 2014, we celebrated the first 25 years of the collaboration between CalArts and Capitol Records.
CalArts Jazz CD 25th Anniversary Celebration
The event was held on CalArts campus at the Wild Beast Pavilion, and featured
- a live performance of new music from the 2014 CD,
- presentations to Joe Smith (former President/CEO of Capitol-EMI and CalArts Board of Trustees), Paula Salvatore (Director of Capitol Studios), and some of the wonderful staff at Capitol,
- and ended with a concert from a group of alumni who recorded on the very first CalArts / Capitol CD in 1990 – Ravi Coltrane (sax), Peter Epstein (sax), Ralph Alessi (trumpet), James Carney (piano), Darek Oles (bass), with Mark Ferber on drums.
